| ARIZONA SCHOOL STATS Arizona has a great school system, even though there are a lot of problems associated with teaching our student population. There are many concerns with teaching english as a second language, paying teachers a fair salary, and finding the money to do all these things. Many of our academic problems stem from the rural cities that have older resources and less of them. Many of the metropolitan school systems thrive with great test scores and high achievers. By far the best schools systems in the Phoenix Metropolitan area is Scottsdale and the best in the Tucson Metropolitan area is Catalina Foothills. There are also many private schools in the metropolitan areas that thrive on excellence. The test scores for these students usually rank higher than those of public schools. Although there is usually a large price to pay for those test scores, there are scholarships available for those who can't afford the tuition.
About the Stanford 9 test: Who takes it and what's it about? Arizona students in grades 1-9 take the Stanford Achievement Test, Ninth Edition (Stanford 9) each spring. The Stanford 9 measures basic skills in reading, language and math, including computation and grammar. It is a timed, multiple choice test; students must work quickly to complete all the questions. How should I use the results? The Stanford 9 IS good for: Seeing how well students are learning basic skills and how their performance compares to students in other states. The Stanford 9 IS NOT good for: Assessing progress towards specific Arizona state standards, or understanding whether students are learning higher-level skills, such as critical thinking. |
